Metal Gear Solid Rising Trailer Impressions

Raiden set to star in new Metal Gear for 360; trailer tags game as "lightning bolt action."

At this morning's Microsoft press conference at E3, famed developer Hideo Kojima finally confirmed what fans of the console have long hoped for: The Metal Gear Solid franchise is coming to Microsoft's gaming device. Titled Metal Gear Solid Rising, the new game will follow the adventures of the ninja Raiden, with Kojima offering very few other details.

What he did show, however, was a quick trailer. Although that ended up being as oblique as Konami's teaser campaign in the lead up to this year's E3. The trailer began amidst a background of gray, cloudy skies. Brief flashes of what looked like Japanese characters then appeared, as well as various close-ups of Raiden's eyes, gloves, chest plates, and more. The trailer then showed a full head-and-shoulders view of the ninja, which looked to be the same as was revealed last week on the official Kojima Productions Web site. As with previous Metal Gear games, Rising will also have a three word tagline. This time, it's: Lightning Bolt Action. The words "Sneak In" then appeared, followed by a voice-over, which said "Raiden... is back."

The trailer had no footage from the game, so there are still plenty of questions left unanswered about this new entry into the Metal Gear Universe. For more from the show, check out GameSpot's complete coverage of E3 2009.

Randolph Ramsay loves games in the same way monkeys love bananas. Sure, they can live without it, but what's the point? He also loves fighting games, but never plays online in case people notice just how bad he is at them.

This project had become eerily silent, and Kojima too... I am sensing something here. Just like the times when Kojima says that he will never be involved but he did.

@kaem79 well they already made a game where snake wasnt the main playable character, it was mgs2, you could play as snake for a little bit during the beginning in the first chapter, but the rest of the game for the majority you play as raiden

While I think its awesome they're making a game about Raiden, I'm not sure they should call it a "Metal Gear Solid" game. The series is supposed to be about stealth, not going sparta on everything in sight.

This is ridiculous. MGS ON 360!?!?! That is so pathetic, i mean, they have clueless gamers, some guy in a magizine said "finnall some paced action instead of that boring stealth action" THAT'S SO PATHECTIC. MGS is good for its characters, storyline and gameplay, who gives two hoots about paced action, want paced action go play Halo or some gay FPS. If i were Konami, i would stop this project being released on the 360. No doubt this game will be good i just hope there could be a little bit of stealth elements in the game. I wonder if you can use firearms or just blades and daggers.

I'm wondering if this game will cover the story as to how Raiden meets and helps Big Mama recover the body of who they thought was Big Boss. That would be pretty sick. I just hope this game doesn't copy the hack and slash stuff from the nightmare big boss has in the cell in MGS3.

@RWF Why he starts to age? errr... Thought that was explained in MGS and MGS4, lol.

Cant wait to play this game though, they better not dumb down the PS3 version to make it fit on a Xbox console -_-

which is the upgraded version of sons of liberty, so my point is still valid.

We'll see how well this Metal Gear looks on the Xbox. Multi-platform games tends to suit the 360 than the PS3. If this next MGS game tries to suit the 360, it will disappoint like Final Fantasy XXIII. If not, I predict 5 discs for the 360 version. This is Hideo Kojima we're talking about. Don't know how he can top MGS4, but it probably will happen.

    Substance was on the Xbox.

No it's not Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty was on the original Xbox

I dont really see why this being on the 360 is a shock to most people seeing as it will not be the first MGS game on a Microsoft console.
