Fable III revolution begins October 26

E3 2010: Third installment in Lionhead Studios' action role-playing game franchise dated at Microsoft's E3 conference.

Lionhead Studios' next trip to Albion finally has a release date. During Microsoft's E3 media briefing this morning, Lionhead founder Peter Molyneux announced that Fable III would be arriving October 26.

Molyneux also introduced a trailer for the game that depicted two different rulers and the ways their decisions--for good or evil--are reflected in the population. The clip also showed what appeared to be an Albion in the midst of a revolution, as well as ship-to-ship combat punctuated by ample amounts of cannon fire and swashbuckling.

Fable III is the latest entry in a franchise that has been tied up with the Xbox since 2001, when the first game in the series was shown off at the Electronic Entertainment Expo under the name Project Ego. In a reversal of course from the second game of the series, Lionhead is developing Fable III for the PC as well as the Xbox 360.

The game will ship in both limited-edition and standard flavors, with the former containing playing cards and a guild coin, as well as bonus in-game content. The in-game extras will include a new quest to unlock a legendary weapon, an exclusive location, a unique outfit, and a new breed of dog, the Boxer. The standard edition on the Xbox 360 will retail for Ł49.99 in the UK, $59.99 stateside, and €64.99 in the Eurozone. The Windows equivalent will cost Ł39.99/$49.99/€54.99.

Yay, it's for PC Now I just need to buy an xbox for the second one... wait, they're still trying to trick me? I hope I don't need to play Fable 2 to play Fable 3 (and understand the story).

Changing swords - hmmm, I would imagine, just like characters models, that everyone is going to end up looking one of two or three ways, as will their weapons. Loved the original Fable for its story and delivery. The sequel I found extremely disappointing - terrible story and nothing was really improved. After buying into Molyneux's hype more than I should have (Black and White 2, Fable 2, etc.), I'm not expecting much this time around. Here's hoping I'm pleasantly surprised.

Fable 2 was such a disappointment… The combat was lacklustre the levelling up pointless… Collecting stuff was pointless… Buying property was pointless… The terrible terrible slowdown and the appalling ending… I was a big fan of the Fable universe and I bought into the hyperbole spouted by Peter Molyneux about Fable 2. What a fool I was… I even pre-ordered the collectors edition for the free figurine cards and coin, or some other gubbins, and guess what just before release the freebies where withdrawn just like so much of the promised gameplay… Who remembers the barfight video…80110ck5... This Geezer in the video has The Molyneux delivery down pat though...

Really looking forward to this! I am a massive RPG fan and enjoy the more sophisticated PC RPG and the console JRPG. Can't really compare Fable to either so it's a different and enjoyable experience. This one is looking epic!

the changing swords guns ect sounds cool and all but “200 different weapons” is one of the reasons we play rpgs. its a time honored formula that has worked for a very long time. fable 2 wasn’t nearly as good as its predecessor because it seems to be leaving this formula. (by the end of the game your character will be a generic evil or good dude with pretty much the same stats and appearance. -1 in my book). fable 1 had hundreds of swords, hammers, axes, armors ect and that helped the game, fable 2 lost alot of that (added other good stuff but lost alot). you see games like borderlands who adds millions of weapons and that certainly doesn’t hurt it, instead it made replaying it more appetizing. i don’t see why fable wants to go the other way. i replayed fable 1 a few times, and then bought the game. rented fable 2, beat it once and haven’t gone back...hope 3 wont be the same.
