GoldenEye 007 staring down Wii in November

By Eddie Makuch

E3 2010: Nintendo 64 classic reimagined for Nintendo's console this winter with four-player split-screen local multiplayer, online multiplayer, updated visuals, Daniel Craig as Bond.

LOS ANGELES--At Nintendo's 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing this morning, Reggie Fils-Aime announced that Goldeneye 007 will arrive exclusively for the Wii this November.

A two-minute trailer for the game was shown, revealing that the remake will include updated visuals, four-player split-screen multiplayer, and new game modes. Although the original GoldenEye 007 featured Pierce Brosnan in the leading role, today's trailer revealed current Quantum of Solace actor Daniel Craig as the leading man.

Goldeneye 007 for the Wii will also include online multiplayer, a functionality its N64 cousin could not offer. In addition, players will be able to take part in 16 game modes, including GoldenEye 007 N64 favorites Paintball, Melee Only, and You Only Live Twice. On top of that, players can square off against each other in the game's adversarial modes, with the roster including eight characters from the revered Bond classic, as well as 40 other unnamed virtual soldiers.

The game is currently in development at Eurocom under the banner of Activision, the publisher that currently holds the license to create James Bond titles.

This looks promising. Goldeneye was my favorite N64 game. I bought it first came out, and it was my first taste of multiplayer deathmatches (always on License to Kill mode). I still remember how much fun I had with proximity mines (plant them on the spot when you respawn, and the next person to spawn there is instantly toast.), Ia do wonder if Goldeneye is still as fun today, though, since the bar for FPS's has been raised many, many times since 1997.

Goldeneye on n64 is the best first person shooter ever. The story is so long and differs from the movie a little and takes you to all these cool new locations that are sprawling with russian soldiers to shoot. The missions are plenty and vary in gameplay, everything from infiltrating russian chemical facilities to sneaking into bunkers with a silenced pistol popping gaurds red before they get the alarms or fire on you to jungle warfare! Goldenye 64 has so much to do and unlock and so much replay value. The sound effects and the way soldiers grunt and turn red when your bullets hit them and the sounds of the bodies dropping after you just pumped them with led in goldeneye64 was and is just so satisfying and perfect. I hope this expands on the greatness of the original rather than just be a flashy and medicre remake.

Have you seen the guns? they look like shoeboxes. Matter of fact the whole thing looks like it's completely missed the point of what made the original great. To think Rare HAD an updated goldeneye ready to go, and Nintendo nixed it. For this tripe.

This is going to be garbage. I'm sure no one from the original development team RARE will be working on this, but rather people like myself who grew up playing the original and got inspired to do a re-release. (I'm now 26 and "007'ed" 4 cartridges for friends...for fun) Also, I'm taking into consideration that since Goldeneye's release, there are plenty of 3D shooters that have been released and since then people's expectations have only increased. What can the new Goldeneye bring besides online multiplayer? Nothing. Instead of raising the bar for 3D shooters like the original did, gamers will get a clone of every other 3D shooter currently out there, or worse.

We all want an HD version on Arcade and PSN, not a re-imagined version with Daniel Craig on Wii!

If it could surpassed the N64 original and the Perfect Dark re-release on XBLA, then I'm all for this game.

ghoulschoolfool, shooters work very well on wii, much better then dual sticks. the game will be worth it for the online multiplayer alone.

Goldeneye hasnt aged well on 64. Added daniel craig and motion controls will not help the gameplay. I always wanted more Goldeneye, but after seeing the trailer, Im worried. Im kinda sad now they didnt leave it in the past with its high regard.
