E3 2011: Xbox.com outs Halo 4, Halo HD remake

Microsoft's site prematurely tips its hand for new Master Chief entry, "remastered" version of Combat evolved; Dance Central 2, Kinect game "Ryse" also shown.

LOS ANGELES--Even though Microsoft's press conference isn't for another two hours, several of its biggest surprises have already been revealed. Briefly this morning, the official Xbox.com E3 page flashed the software giant's entire lineup for the show, which included some major debuts.

According to a snapshot of the page acquired by CVG before it was hurriedly pulled down, the biggest game to be unveiled is Halo 4. Aside from a screenshot of series heroine Cortana talking to the Master Chief, little was revealed about the game, other than that it was a "return to the Halo universe."

Speaking of the Halo universe, the page also outed Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. As suspected, the game is an HD remake of the 2001 original, or, as Microsoft puts it: "The epic game that launched a universe, mastered for a new generation."

Also included in the leak was confirmation of Harmonix's latest boogie game, Dance Central 2. The news comes as no surprise, as Harmonix confirmed it would be showing a new game at the show and a domain name was registered for it just yesterday.

Lastly, the page showed something called "Ryse," a new title for the Kinect. Besides its name, nothing more is known about the title, except that in it "you are the warrior" in an "action-packed Kinect experience."

Gamers eager to hear official word of the above-mentioned games can tune in to Microsoft's media briefing, which is slated for 9 a.m. PDT today.

[UPDATE] Halo 4 has now indeed been confirmed for a Fall 2012 release. The first teaser trailer for the game is below.

    @dlCHIEF58 its not just 3 games im talking about the whole halo franchise that ive played every game - Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Reach and now back to a revamped Halo combat evolved. im not even including Halo wars as it aint a fps. So yes of coarse its been done to death upto this point. I had more fun with the first halo on the first xbox as it was fresh and new and then the 360 had halo 2 massive for multi player which was fresh and new then it just felt the same as do the COD franchise now. So the new console realease of halo 4 is the only way its going to attract people to the franchise by doing something fresh and new on realease and wont work on the existing 360 as people will only get more of the same as the previous games which to me makes it done to death. Game follow ups now feel like the star wars franchise films who now are doing it in 3D at cinemas, yes they are classics but it grindes on and on and on and we need some new ideas and that can only be done on a new system. So why on earth would you wanna see halo 4 on the 360 and not the next gen.

    Will be interesting to see how well a new studio does with this gaming series. I'm thinking this was encouraged by the big reception Black Ops got after the Infinity Ward fiasco. If shooter fans can be accepting of a big shift in a big franchise's development once, hey, they can do it again. Just pray they don't annualie it like Call of Duty and really milk it to death.

    Drakkengoth, they did. The grenades and melees were the only part wrong with Reach plus the maps... If they just fixed the over powerfulness of grenades and melees and made good maps, the game would be sick.

    Excited for the Combat Evolved remake, they couldn't go wrong with that UNLESS they actually mess with the formula. Not so excited for the next halo trilogy let alone any other Spin-offs during the downtime between games. Reach was an enormous disappointment I really had wished they took more time with that game

    I know I kinda of mistaken the timeline. You know that they can also buy Halo:CE in Game Marketplace right?

    @Dazler1

    How does 3 games (Halo 3, ODST, and Reach) in 6 1/2 years qualify as being "done to death" this generation? I didn't count Halo Wars as it is a completely different genre than the core Halo games. And there has been absolutely no indication of a new console being released in 2012 other than Nintendo's new system. While they may be working on a new system, don't expect it to be released until either 2013 or 2014 as the current gen has plenty of life left in it.

    @dlCHIEF58 you should check your facts there
    there are still a few spartans on some planet not accounted for

    @Chavis02

    check your timeline, as Halo Wars all happened prior to the Halo:CE and Reach. For one, you have multiple Spartan available and the last of them except for Master Chief were killed on Reach. Also Xbox gamers already know were the series started as it was the first Xbox games. What you meant was that 360 gamers that did not play original would have a chance to experience it.

    Ah... Another Halo. That's very predictable.

    Sure, it's not Bungie that's making, but for Bungie's sake, it had better diversify, or else Microsoft working the same franchise over and over. Tom McShea had said in a HotSpot episode when the participants were discussing Bungie's deal with Activision:

    Tom McShea: "Microsoft is so bad, that Bungie ran to Activision. Who runs to Activision?!"

    @AuronAXE

    There is slim to no chance that there will be a link to future Halo games to the Marathon series for one simple reason - Bungie is not making it and they still own the rights, not Microsoft. The next Halo games are being made by 343 Industries.

    It's made by 343 Industries, which includes members of Bungie.
