E3 2011: Forza Motorsport 4 Microsoft Press Conference Impressions Preview

Turn 10 Studios shows off its Kinect-enabled racing game at Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference.

During this morning's Microsoft press conference, Turn 10 Studios took to the stage to show off Forza Motorsport 4. Composed entirely of in-game footage, the impressive trailer got underway with a look at some incredibly detailed car models from such manufacturers as Ferrari, Mercedes, Bugatti, and Lamborghini. These are just a handful of the 80-plus manufacturers that will appear in the game. Car interiors were also shown, and they looked every bit as good; they need to because when playing with a Kinect, you'll have the option to enable head tracking and look around from your position in the driver's seat. Kinect voice support was also confirmed during the showing, but it's not yet clear how it will be used.

There wasn't a great deal of racing footage, but what was shown made it clear that, as in previous Forza Motorsport games, it won't just be the cars that look great. The views when racing across a bridge high in some snow-capped mountains were breathtaking, and closer to home, the tires forming a wall around a racing circuit didn't appear to have any less attention paid to them by Turn 10 artists than those on the cars.

No mention was made of any improvements that might be coming where car customization and vinyl options are concerned, but car clubs, 16-player races, and a new Rivals mode were all confirmed, as were monthly downloadable content expansions.

We look forward to bringing you more information on Forza Motorsport 4 later this week, including a demo on our live stage show on Wednesday afternoon. Forza Motorsport 2 is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 11.

Thank God I live in Europe and not North America. I'd much rather be playing Forza Motorsport 4 than 2 in October! :p

You say that they have the wrong impressions but gave no elaboration, and then demanded the removal of the article.

    You are their boss indeed.

I think this is quite irrelevant stuff, what about real improvements like weather, different times of the day/night. Why are no steering wheels offered at the moment? I just hope that they not just wasted time for this Kinect stuff, this game is mostly played by serious racers that already see lag in the racing wheels, Kinect on this seems like a waste. Well for me it would already an improvement to go back to the Forza 2 Online Play modes. What I would like is some more assistance for setups. it is nice that all the options are available but sometime you spend more time doing setups for each track than playing.

(I like both GT and Forza) but unless they do something impressive I really have no need to buy the same sim racing game twice, plus I prefer the G25 steering wheel to the Xbox wheel.

why no headlights werent on during the race footages? and yes! the drivers unlike other Forza's that drivers were sunk in shadows have recognisable face and costumes.

There's a mistake in the article: Forza Motorsport 2 is currently scheduled for release in North America on October 11. Forza 2 is out. I think you've meant 4.

idk why i cant reply to you @sethfrost basic but ya when i showed my cousin forza 3 he was like why in the world cant they make a racing game like this on the pc, especially considering the amazing logitech racing wheel you can have for it (reading eng*dg3ts review on the porsche racing wheel with forza 3 just makes me so sad at the potential that gets lost, especially when every video they show has them with a custombuild racing chair, steering wheel, screens etc to race on) let alone the power to really showcase some incredible stuff with their game --- instead the pc gets dirt and need for speed and thats about it....freakin sucks

--- maybe they are worried about ppl mod'ing it and stuff? idk but having a forza on the pc would be pretty darn close to a godsend for me and im sure many many other people
