E3 2011: Luigi's Mansion 2 spooking 3DS

Nintendo confirms sequel to GameCube launch title will arrive for its new portable with all-new mansions; release date TBA.

LOS ANGELES--As anticipation mounted for Nintendo to unveil the Wii U at its 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference today, the publisher offered a few appetizers. One such was Luigi's Mansion 2, which was announced for the 3DS.

Details on the project were sparse. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, Luigi's Mansion 2 won't be a simple revision of the original Luigi's Mansion, which was released to a positive critical reception as a GameCube launch title in 2001. Fils-Aime also confirmed that Luigi's Mansion 2 will include several new mansions to explore.

Nintendo showed a brief gameplay trailer for Luigi's Mansion 2, one that bore a strong resemblance to the GameCube original. In Ghostbusters fashion, Luigi was shown exploring a haunted mansion, vacuuming up poltergeists, spooks, mummies, and other ghosts. The title also appeared to have the Mario franchise's characteristic charm.

Nintendo did not offer a release date for Luigi's Mansion 2. Check back with GameSpot for more on the title as it is announced.

Will be pre-order this definitely. The first game was excellent. I knew we'd finally get some decent games on the 3DS,

This is amazing, but why no Wii or WiiU support? It really seems like a console game.

Luigi's Mansion wasnt a bad idea, It was just poorly executed. I am glad its getting a second chance to shine on the 3DS, Luigi doesnt get enough credit as is.

Ghost catching business. If I'm wrong, I'll shoot myself... Well, not really myself-- there's this guy with my face only with a stupid 1800s mustache who just showed up in town the other day... :\
