Downloadable Xbox 360 and PS3 Online Edition of Capcom fighter gets a release window; YouTube replay sharing confirmed.

LOS ANGELES--Last July, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono announced Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, but cautioned fans that the downloadable Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 rerelease of the classic arcade fighter would not arrive anytime soon. After nearly a year of silence about the project, Capcom today confirmed a launch window for the game, saying it would be out this summer for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

More than just a port of the 1999 arcade game, 3rd Strike Online will feature a revamped user interface to take advantage of the systems' HD capabilities and a handful of visual filtering options. Beyond changing the way gamers see the game as they play, 3rd Strike Online will change the way others see them play with YouTube replay sharing. Capcom is incorporating YouTube functionality into the game that will let players upload their match replays to the video streaming service "with the click of a button."

Capcom is incorporating GGPO technology for the game's online functionality, the same netcode under the hood of the Final Fight: Double Impact package released last year. The publisher has also promised unlockable rewards, but did not specify exactly what form they would take.

When it arrives, 3rd Strike will sell for $15 (1,200 Microsoft points). For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review of the Dreamcast port.

Something you want to believe is always truth to you indeed. I suppose that you consider everyone else who don't see things your way to not know what they are talking about.

That said, I would repeat what I am talking about - and that is, Capcom could have spent whatever resources it spent on this re-release on a newer project instead.

@Gelugon_baat What I believe is the truth, which is you donot know what your talking about.

Alright, you believe what you want to believe and I'll believe what I want to believe - and I will repeat again, Capcom could have spent the capital and effort for this re-release on some newer project instead.

    Have a good day.

@Gelugon_baat What makes me think is that the way you initially acted as if they owed you something. Oh wait you donot expect them too, but yet...you complained as if they did owe you something. And than you say you donot, but yet you question Capcom as if they owed you something? Funny....also I know what Yoshinori Ono said, infact unlike you I have interviewed him and he told the group I was with at one poitn that these rereleases are to interest both old and new fans. Your statement at the Comic Con address was misrepresented as I reread the transcript. Have a nice day sir!

What makes you think I am not aware of the truth that you mentioned? I am well aware that it's Capcom's, or any other publishers', call to make what they will with the IPs that they own, including re-releasing older games or just updating them. I certainly know that they don't owe me anything - and I don't owe them anything either.

If Capcom wants to capitalize on a growing Street Fighter audience, Capcom would be better off working on another Street Fighter game - or a new Street Fighter cross-over. If that audience is indeed growing, it would be because of the newer Street Fighter games - not the older ones.

This re-release is for the fans who already know about Third Strike, as Yoshinori Ono had stated himself at 12:22 of the Comic-Con 2010 address - not necessarily the ones that are being added to the fan-base.

@Gelugon_baat I am attacking your logic because your complaining for no reason. Your acting like the big bad corporations are out to get you, like all too many people. To be honest I disagree with the practices of some gaming companies, but the truth is that this is a buisness. Too many gamers, act spoiled, such as your comment demonstrated. Capcom is capitalizing on the growing Street Fighter audience, it makes sense, so thus your complaints are invalidated. Publishers are a buisness out to make money, they donot cater to just you. Its the truth.

What makes you think I am not aware that older products are re-released in new formats to make money off the fans of the original? I am well aware of this, so you don't have to keep resorting to attacks on my logic.

That said, this is still making money off older products. The capital that had gone into these re-releases could have gone into other business decisions, if the product-maker had other fresher ideas instead.

@Gelugon_baat You logic again is fallible and you have no grounds. It proves you donot know what your talking about, and instead of being on a video game forum you should actually do some research. This buisness practice is to appeal to those fans. Its the same reason why you upgrade from the VHS to the DVD to the Bluray. They have added features that were not in the original release. And they are released when they are marketable. Street Fighter is quite popular these days, so it is to make money off the game with added online(Yes Third Impact was released on Xbox back in 2004, but that port had online only on live and not in the PS2 version. And of course live for original Xbox is not there.) Again you donot know what your talking about....

It may be a common practice, but I am more intrigued with the goal of this business practice. If I do have a "fallible logic" that is "pretty funny to say the least", then do please tell me why they re-release older products then, if not to make money from them instead of investing the capital that had gone into their re-releases into some other business decision instead.

    @TheTrueMagusX1
You don't really have to stick labels like "fallible logic" when you find something "pretty funny".

That said, I do happen to get the same impression when other publishers re-release older games - running out of ideas to make money, that is, not necessarily running out of ideas in general.

  • TheTrueMagusX1

    Posted Jun 9, 2011 7:55 am GMT

@Gelugon_baat Well than that means by your fallible logic all game companies are running out of ideas, considering that most publishers release older games of theirs right? Pretty funny statement....

I get the impression that Capcom is running out of new ideas to make money.

Thats great news, yet another game I have to get this year!
It can't be $15 worldwide though, here that'd buy me a McDonalds Hunger Buster you ain't gonna tell me I can buy a whole game for that price. I bet its like $50 or more here so why don't they put $15 US or UK or have gamespot forgotten this is the worldwide web? If it is that price great, but highly unlikely.
