E3 2011: Mass Effect and Wii U a 'really nice fit' - EA

By Eddie Makuch

EA Games boss Frank Gibeau won't say if Mass Effect 3 is coming to Nintendo's new console, but did tease that a game set in the space RPG universe might be in the pipeline.

LOS ANGELES--Earlier this week at Microsoft's E3 2011 media briefing BioWare confirmed rumors that Mass Effect 3 would adopt Kinect controls. Today, publisher Electronic Arts is speaking about the possibility of bringing the Mass Effect universe to another console, Nintendo's just-announced Wii U.

In an interview with GameTrailers, EA Games top man Frank Gibeau fielded fan questions about the publisher's library of titles, one of which asked if Mass Effect 3 was planned for the Wii U. Gibeau did not flatly reject the notion, instead saying a game set in the space-bound role-playing game series was possible.

"I can't say that we are going to do [Mass Effect 3] on the Wii U, but you can imagine what we could (emphasis added) do with that controller in the Mass Effect universe," he said. "It feels like it's a really nice fit. But we'll announce that when it's ready."

As for Mass Effect 3, it is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on March 6, 2012. Players will once again take on the role of Commander Shepard, a hardened space marine who is now on the run from the shadowy pro-human organization Cerberus. To save Earth, Shepard must travel the galaxy trying to rally support from alien civilizations with varying degrees of sympathy.

@Naedeslus i would love that the problem is the first game was published by Microsoft and they own the rights that's why it's not on the PS3 i would love the whole trilogy on all the consoles but i don't think it would happen

I think they should remaster the first game and port 2 and 3 for the WiiU so they can experience the trilogy.

Dont really mind, more platforms = more money for game developers, which should hopefully mean better production values on games........

Do WIIu owners get ME2 or a second comic to sit through?

@sonicman12 You COULD think about doing that, but the cake is a lie sir. Thus rendering that concept fully impossible

Since when did everyone become so obsessed with the Mass Effect series? Back when ME1 was released, there were not that many fans... Anyway, I hope Bioware doesn't dumb down the final game for casual gamers because they will completely ruin it.

"I COULD also take my nose, and put it in a cake. But. That's just speculation. Why would I say anything that would make people assume things, right?"

So the BioWare is going even more mainstream? They really did sell their souls to EA.

Well actually I think an incredible game like Mass Effect would appeal to anyone regardless of was console he or she owns. You are right there is a large gap but Nintendo gamers such as myself would get the game on WiiU and I think that they can add a lot of extra features to the game released on WiiU because of it's new controller like how the game responds to voice on the Kinect while it can not on other consoles. Let's just hope.

Bioware will need to be more focuse on story and gameplay, not kinekt and Wii u. Now the game look more like DLC to ME2, not ME3.

Atleast it would get more 3rd party support.

Why bother releasing it for the wiiu?
such a large gap and will it really appeal to Wii gamers?
