    the only age that isn't present in Civ is the future age like in Empire Earth, it would be awesome to see Rostov and the Mechs in Civilization as well as a new Fall from Heaven mode for Civ

    This game looks amazing way better than Civ IV, I don't care if there is no religion now. I belive in science anyways xD. I hope they focus a lot on the eras specialy the space one, future tech awesome! I want mecha gundam units and laser weapons.

    I played IV and it was great. I stoped later on because of the turn-based system. Having to constantly press the next turn button even if nothing serious is goin on is truly annoying. It breaks the flow of the game. I think those games would have been EPIC if the system was realtime.

    Firaxis/Sid Meier. One of two companies (the other being Paradox), that I will automatically buy their next game because they have yet to make one that I didn't enjoy for many more hours than dollars I spent. Can't wait for September!

    Ultra-realistic graphics are technically impossible with 'ultra' meaning 'beyond'.
    Anyway, looks like it will be a good game, but this video was just a load of bullcrap.

    -so great, the interface contains the same elements but the location on screen has changed;
    -the new hexagonal tiles should change the gameplay...Civ was all about the squares back in the days;
    -graphics are just an improvement of Civ 4, but is ok....from what i see in the movie/pics;
    -i just hope that the cool features of 4 were not removed..... religion is one in this thought

    As soon as the reviews come out favorably, I am going to purchase its license off Steam and choke my bandwidth for days downloading it off Steam. Sacrificing my Internet time for a good Civ game will be worth it (and my money).

    @ JAh_Glow : One of my main issues about Civ4 was the lack of real bombardment (aparently they know it was a bad move, it's coming back better than ever at Civ5 if we believe the interviews) but, most important, the end of worker units, being traded by the ability to simply put improvement from your public works "points" pool.

    I just loved the deph that the possibility of raiding workers and devastating the improvements (even bombarding them) added to the game. Sieges felt much more dramatic - it was not about loosing a city or not, war really left a scar on the land and both sides lost much from continued attrition... added a lot of depht and encouraged better strategy to be developed before simply steamrolling the opposition if you wanted useful cities at the end of the wars, really.

    Some diplomacy options where also great, leading the world to massive, unwanted wars because of mutual defense agreements, etc. It was great for history nerds like me, felt s real and alowed to simulate situations like WW1 start...

    Other points where softened as well. Overall, I felt they worried about being politicaly correct (not allowing "civilian" targets like workers or city/title improvements so you can no longer starve besieged cities, removing the weight from religion) instead of making the best Civ game they could. That's what I hope they reverse in this one, I know they CAN make the best Civ game ever if they put that on the top of the list.

    @ Ryuthemonkeyboy: The issue here seems to be I really like Civ (since Civ1), so upgrades just make me a happy panda cause it's an upgrade to something I already enjoy. You, on the other hand, seem to show interest for Civ, but not really like the old ones. And new versions are not completely new games, they are new versions, so if you didn't like the last 4, you'll probably not like the new one either. You seem to like RTS games better than Turn Based games... ever tried Rise of Nations? It's pretty close to "civ goes RTS", you'd prolly love it (and it's a great game indeed).

    But hey, glad we can disagree keeping it civil. I'm tired of the interwebz mania to fight instead of showing different points and agreeing to disagreee sometimes

    @nodashi From my point of view, I can see that yes they have made upgrades, several are plain to see but others, the Catan-like hex tiles must be helpful in gameplay, but it isn't anything I can readily appreciate since I'm more used to the TOTAL freedom of Railroads!

    It troubles me greatly that CIV remains so simplistic as to use tiles at all. I don't even mind that it is turn based, but it would be much more fun to have sliding realtime progression, the pressure of having to make your move always being there is a great motivator. What I want to see is CIV that is freed from tiles, where distances and turns are based on 360 degrees of freedom (including digging, submerging, and flying). And coming from rails, economies in CIV don't make sense because they aren't visible (at least freight-wise and seeing the people in town, and the towns themselves growing in realtime or shrinking, and taking on the appearance of whatever types of tech, culture and trade occur there. Wouldn't the game be more awesome if each town was visibly influenced by everything that happens to it? as in war, culture, politics, tech etc.

    The game is flat, and no less boring than ever. From what I've seen which is very little. Which is a crying shame given all this time the series has had to really mature.

    Was looking forward to actual game information from this video, but whatever. Definitely will be picking this up and consequently not sleeping, but I will wait a bit until a lot of the inevitable bugs are fixed. Also I hope they ramp up the AI to make the game more challenging. But they can only go so far before I will be pounding the deity AI again anyway, but it's hella fun.

    this is my most anticipated game of the year, maybe the first game i'll preorder

    I disagree with your sentiments toward Civ4; while I still think Civ3 was and wis a great game, I felt Civ4 was a step in the right direction. I enjoyed the streamlining, and after adjusting to it, it made the game easier for me to play and get into. Technical and graphical issues don't bother me as much, but when it crashes (rarely) it does disappoint me.

    I can't disagree more. Look at the animations, they are much better. And graphics increased, and there are always ways to change the gameplay (hex based maps instead of squares is something I'm waiting since the release of Civ 2).

    Just look at the difference between Civ 2, 3 and 4 (3 is my favorite this far actually, 4 had excessively cartoonish graphics, lousy animations and many technical problems) - the theme is always the same, but because the game is so broad you can always play in different and interesting games.

    I just hope the "streamlined" gameplay doesn't mean it lacks the deph the best ones in the series had. Civ 4 was a step in the wrong direction imho.

    I'd really be sad the day we saw the last Civilization game.

    Wow been five years already since it launched holy cow batman..Cant believe it, civ 4 is still standing the test of time..Graphically its still a winner in my eyes..Voice over is still great with nimoy..Already pre-ordered for this year..

    Someone else said it...this is my GOTY. I still play BtS nearly everyday and I still suck (Noble difficulty). I think that is the appeal. Even if I were to dominate on Noble, just step up one difficulty setting and youre back to a challenge. An unpredictable flagship series that I havent stopped playing since Civ2:Call to Power.
