About the Awards

With the exception of categories such as Best Trailer, Best Stage Demo, and Best New Hardware, the majority of our game awards were limited to games that were playable in some form, hands-on or hands-off, either during the show proper or at pre-E3 events immediately preceding the show. In addition, our E3 awards are for distinguishing those games that made the biggest impression on us at the show--not necessarily those games that seem like they'll turn out to be great games to play later on.

Genre Awards

Best Action/Adventure Game

"Action adventure" is almost too broad a term to describe one type of game, and this category definitely wasn't big enough to contain all the impressive heavy hitters that came out to play at E3 2011. This year, some of the most impressive action adventure games at the show were follow-ups to well-established series of games...but which of these finalists made the best showing?

GameSpot's Best Games of 2010 Readers' Choice Winner And the winner is…

Hitman: Absolution

Hitman Absolution was at once the most impressive action adventure game at E3 and quite possibly the biggest surprise of the show. We know the bald-headed protagonist "47" from the previous Hitman games as an assassin who pulled off his missions by occasionally putting on an apron and poofy chef's hat in the hopes that no one would notice the chef was suddenly this six-foot-tall bald guy. This time around, 47 is no longer the hunter, and his story is more than just a series of killings for hire. The exciting E3 demonstration portrayed the agent's patented stealth skills and marksmanship in a new light--one we hope to see more of in the future. This was definitely the most intriguing action adventure game of the show.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations

GameSpot's Best Games of 2010 Readers' Choice Winner

Assassin's Creed Revelations follows master assassin Ezio Auditore as he walks in the footsteps of his legendary mentor, Altair, on a journey to recover five ancient seals that hold the keys to the future of the Assassins brotherhood. It is a perilous path - one that will take Ezio to Constantinople, the heart of the Ottoman Empire, where a growing army of Templars threatens to destabilize the region.

Wow I would have said TLoZ: SS or Batman. I don't see what's so great about this new Hitman game. Now Ubisoft is just milking Assassin's Creed, it's ridiculous.

In my own opinion AC is getting way to much hype, I will be buying it but I would like to see new assassins in the next games. (90% sure there will be many more games.) The game play will probably get boring after you beat the game and there is nothing to do but kill guards using the same moves...

@calvinsora Ah, I forgot Ezio was left off in Italy, you're right. I would assume at least a part of it would show Ezio leaving Italy, but I would prefer if it were short.

@Ian_K2772: Really? A news article I read recently said it happens at least in part in Italy. Must have been a mistake. Either way, yes, that is what I mean.

@calvinsora It's not in Italy... I assume you mean third Ezio game, as Revelations is set in the Ottoman Empire.

Assassin's Creed was ahead of it's time, the game advanced a lot when it made the transition into Assassin's Creed 2. Brotherhood is more of an extended Assassin's Creed 2 anyway, because of it's length I'm fine with that. This should conclude the trilogy, I'll expect more in the next title.

I can't believe people are just fine with Ubisoft releasing a THIRD AC game in Italy. This is starting to smell of, shall I say it, milking.

    Uncharted or Hitman...hmm

  • wolfmgs

    Posted Jun 26, 2011 1:38 pm GMT

definely i was going to vote for uncharted 3 since it was the most smooth game when uncharted 2 comes and give us a big surprise remember... when uncharted emerged from the nothing...
but this time im with gamespot how many years have been passed since the bald killer come in a game 5 or 6??
everyone that have played hitman knows the fun it was but with a lot of glitches besides 47 was supposely killed...
SO i think im definetly getting Hitman Absolution this time its like hitman within the glitches and a lot of strategy!!

@sithkid135 - not many people have played hitman, its been a long time since the last one was released anyways. Plus, AC is really popular with the current generation of gamers

I love AC but I'm afraid of it getting stale, this being the third release in 3 years, would have thought Arkham City would get more votes than it did..
