About the Awards
With the exception of categories such as Best Trailer, Best Stage Demo, and Best New Hardware, the majority of our game awards were limited to games that were playable in some form, hands-on or hands-off, either during the show proper or at pre-E3 events immediately preceding the show. In addition, our E3 awards are for distinguishing those games that made the biggest impression on us at the show--not necessarily those games that seem like they'll turn out to be great games to play later on.

Best Nintendo 3DS Game
The E3 lineup for Nintendo's 3D-capable handheld had absolutely no shortage of first-party support, featuring some of Nintendo's most beloved characters and franchises. And while there was plenty of noteworthy third-party support, particularly from the likes of Capcom and Konami, few of those games had as good a showing as Nintendo's lineup at this year's show. Still, we hope third-party games eventually get their time in the spotlight somewhere down the road.
Editorial Nominees
Luigi's Mansion 2
It's fitting that this award goes to the sequel to Luigi's Mansion, one of the GameCube's original launch games. It was one of the first games Nintendo used to test the 3D capabilities of the system, and it seems Nintendo was so impressed with the results that it wanted to get a sequel out as soon as possible, give or take 10 years. Luigi's Mansion 2 carries on the same fun haunted adventuring as its predecessor, and the level on display at the show highlighted some visual muscle from the 3DS, not to mention how easy it was to control Mario's brother using the 3DS's control setup. We can't wait to see what else is lurking around the corner for Luigi.
