Crysis 2 PS3, 360, PC-bound

E3 2009: Hours before its press event, Electronic Arts announces that German developer Crytek is finally bringing its cutting-edge graphics shooter series to consoles.

LOS ANGELES--After years of hints and tech-demo teases, the Crysis series is finally headed to consoles. This morning, Electronic Arts and German developer Crytek announced the development of Crysis 2 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game will be the first console title that the notoriously PC-centric studio will develop directly for consoles, having let Ubisoft develop the console spin-offs for its groundbreaking 2004 first-person shooter Far Cry. Ubisoft bought the Far Cry IP outright in 2006. No release date was given.

"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli in a statement. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3." In March, the CryEngine3 was shown off on the 360 and PS3 to Game Developers Conference attendees.

As part of today's announcement, EA and Crytek also announced that they were extending their strategic partnership forged in 2004. The deal came shortly after Far Cry became both a critical and commercial hit on the PC for Ubisoft, which EA still owns one fifth of. The deal is part of the EA Partners program, which lets developers pick and choose marketing, sales, and development-support services from the megapublisher. Current EA Partners and games include Harmonix (Rock Band), Valve (The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead), Grasshopper Manufacture (Unnamed PC/PS3/360/Wii project), and Epic Games (Untitled People Can Fly Project).

hopefully they don't f**k the PC version by just giving us a crappy port from the consoles with no real optimizations. seen that happen quite a few times

i can understand that they want to maximise sales and im all for them making a healthy profit. it means they get to make more awesome games in the future and thats great. i just hope that if the console sales figures do dominate the PC numbers, they dont neglect the PC gamers in future projects. undoubtably, most doomsayers are overeacting on the issue of PC gaming decline, but there is enough of a trend to suggest developers are forsaking PC games in favour of consoles.

given that crysis still brings top pc's to their knees They have got some serious optimizations to do. Of course it simply cant be as good looking as the pc version on highest settings but even at a notch or 2 down it will still look great!! Let hope the pc version doesnt suffer for it tho,

So long as they don't pull back the PC graphics just so it can run on consoles i'm happy.

Hey I have always been a pc gamer but I'm happy that people will get to play Crysis on consoles. I just hope they don't rush the game.

It's pretty obvious that the PC version will look way better than the console versions, but you will need a good PC to run it on max.

I hope they go back to the shaders on Crysis because the ones on Warhead were over saturated.

Wow, yet again totally ashamed to call myself a PC gamer.

So many of you acting like spoiled kids, cause your neighbour got the same toy that you had been rubbin his face in, come on get a grip.
As for Crysis being dumbed down, it was already dumb, as was the original Fear, and just about every other video game out there, cause well thats what they are supposed to be.

ErazemZ, system ram has alot to do with graphics, when the video card runs out, the system ram takes over, as it has to, yes its slower, but it still uses it
Crysis uses about 1.5gb of my system ram when i checked it there.
Try to do a bit of research before calling people retards, and making yourself look silly.

And the 360/PS3 footage of CryEngine3 looks as good if not better than the original Crysis, but we will wait to see if this ends up true in reality.

    @all the retards like mouthforbathory!!!

RAM has nothing WHATSOEVER to do with graphics!!! The graphics cards utilize their own GRAM, because the RAM you have on your mobo is WAY to slow. (just for example: the pci-e has 16gb/s bandwith, while your average ram only has 125mb/s r/w (reed/write) speed)

So 4gb's of ram won't help you up your graphics performance. It affects other things, but not graphics!!!

(All that assuming you don't have internal graphics accelration :d )
